Celebrating the First Native Hawaiian Scholarship at the International Student House DC Gala

At K2, we believe that education and cultural exchange have the power to change lives and create a better future for everyone. This week’s International Student House DC Gala was a shining example of that belief in action.

For the first time in the organization’s history, K2 awarded a scholarship to the first Native Hawaiian student to attend the International Student House in Washington, D.C. This milestone represents not only an exciting opportunity for this deserving student but also a commitment to greater representation and inclusion in global leadership programs.

Our Co-Founders, Jeffrey Krilla and Peter Krilla, had the honor of presenting this groundbreaking scholarship during the evening. The atmosphere in the room was electric, filled with support for fostering diversity, empowering the next generation, and celebrating cultural exchange.

The Fireside Chat: A Highlight of Leadership and Inspiration

The Gala also featured an incredible fireside chat between Melike Yetken Krilla, co-chair of the event, and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield. Their conversation was a highlight of the evening, offering powerful insights into the importance of diplomacy, education, and international exchange in tackling global challenges.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield shared her experiences as a diplomat and her vision for fostering understanding across cultures and nations. Her words served as a reminder of the profound impact that programs like the International Student House can have in shaping future leaders and changemakers.

This inspiring dialogue perfectly complemented the theme of the evening: the transformative power of education, diversity, and global connection.

Why This Scholarship Matters

Native Hawaiians have historically faced barriers to accessing higher education and leadership opportunities on a global scale. By supporting this scholarship, K2 is helping to create pathways for talented individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to engage in meaningful conversations, learn from diverse perspectives, and become ambassadors for their communities.

This effort is more than just financial support; it’s a statement of our shared values—of inclusion, opportunity, and the belief that global challenges require diverse voices at the table.

A Night of Celebration and Connection

The Gala was more than an awards ceremony; it was a celebration of community and collaboration. From the inspiring fireside chat to the vibrant conversations among attendees, the evening highlighted the incredible work being done to empower future leaders.

Our K2 team was proud to play a part in this special event. It was a moment to reflect on our commitment to fostering leadership and education, and to connect with others who share the same vision for a better world.

Looking Ahead

This Native Hawaiian scholarship is just the beginning. At K2, we’re committed to supporting initiatives that advance education, leadership, and diversity. We’re excited to see the incredible impact this scholarship recipient will make during their time at the International Student House and beyond.

The fireside chat and the award presentation were powerful reminders of what can be accomplished when communities come together with a shared purpose. Together, we can break down barriers, create opportunities, and inspire the next generation of global leaders.

Here’s to making waves and building bridges—locally and globally.
