The Role
As a Future Operational Planner, you'll serve as a key advisor and lead planner supporting deliberate, crisis action, and contingency planning functions. You'll integrate emerging capabilities, including cyber, into planning processes, lead Operational Planning Teams, produce executable orders, and ensure synchronized action across functional and planning elements. This is a role for a proven practitioner who knows the difference between a plan on paper and one that holds up under real-world conditions.
Responsibilities
Lead Operational Planning Teams (OPTs) through deliberate, crisis action, and contingency planning using MCPP or equivalent joint planning processes
Support Crisis Action Planning Teams (CAPTs) and manage the transition from deliberate planning to executable contingency orders
Draft FRAGOs, WARNOs, and branch plans integrated with current operations and broader strategic objectives
Apply expertise in force management, including force sourcing, allocation, and apportionment in complex operational environments
Integrate new and emerging capabilities (cyber, exercise planning) into existing and future operational frameworks
Review and provide recommendations on high-level operational plans, orders, and classified initiatives
Facilitate briefings, capture meeting products, and maintain planning records in compliance with records management requirements
Coordinate planning tasks across functional groups to synchronize current and future operations under tight operational timelines
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
6+ years of experience in operational planning, planning analysis, or a closely related function
Demonstrated application of structured planning processes (MCPP, JOPP, or equivalent) in support of strategic or operational objectives
Proven ability to develop operational plans, draft orders, and coordinate across teams under real-world timelines
Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience producing executive-level briefings and analytic products
Must be TS/SCI eligible with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI access
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Strategic Intelligence, National Security Studies, or a related discipline
Experience in joint, combined, or multi-organizational planning environments
Working knowledge of operational art and design — framing competition, crisis, and contingency scenarios for senior decision-makers
Familiarity with integrating cyber or other emerging capabilities into operational planning constructs
Experience supporting contingency planning, crisis action planning, or large-scale training exercises
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $110,000–$130,000 annually
Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
Professional development and advanced training opportunities
K2 is an Equal Opportunity Employer. This is an immediate opening.
